Langley’s Care Team secured ‘Highly Commended’ in the Housing Heroes Awards 2017.
The awards ceremony took place on 26th June 2017 in Manchester in the run-up to the Housing 2017 conference.
The Housing 2017 conference is Europe’s largest housing event, attracting thousands of attendees and covers key issues relating to housing, policy and housing innovation.
The awards are jointly organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).
The Housing Heroes Award celebrates the work of exceptional and innovative teams across the housing sector. It also seeks to highlight individuals and teams that are leading the way in housing and recognise the ‘unsung heroes’ of the housing world who would not normally be covered by other housing awards.
The Care Team was shortlisted in the ‘Support and Care Team of the Year category. This is the second year running that the Care Team has been shortlisted for this category. It was chosen for its ‘can-do attitude’ and its commitment to improve the quality of life for hard-to-place individuals in the Criminal Justice system. This includes those with enduring mental health issues, physical care needs and learning disabilities.
With the prison population rapidly aging, there is an increasing need for care services to be provided to prisoners both in prison and on release. In the nomination, the Care Team was praised for its work in meeting some of this need – they have overseen the redesign of a Langley project to create a flagship care home which will provide 31 care beds, 13 of which will be wheelchair accessible.
Over 750 people attended the awards ceremony which was hosted by comedian and actor, Justin Moorehouse. The awards ceremony also raised over £2,000 for the CIH’s chosen presidential charity, Crisis.
Speaking about the award, CEO Tracy Wild said:
We are really pleased to have secured ‘Highly Commended’ for our Care Team in the Housing Heroes Award. The awards recognise excellence and good practice in the housing sector and we’re delighted that the dedication, commitment and hard work of the Care Team has been recognised in this way.
