Care Team Shortlisted for Housing Heroes Award

Housing Heroes Awards 2018 Finalist logoLangley’s Care Team has been shortlisted for a Housing Heroes Award!

The Housing Heroes Awards recognise the people that “make housing great” who are often the unsung heroes of the housing world.

Langley’s Care Team was put forward for the ‘Support and Care Team’ award for their commitment, perseverance and hard work in delivering high quality support and care to men coming from prison or secure hospitals.

There is a growing need for care services for men leaving prison. The elderly prison population is the fastest growing prison population currently. People leaving prison after several decades often require care services when they are released.

Our Care Team works with up to 150 men at any one time, including some of the most difficult to engage and hard to place individuals in the Criminal Justice System. The Care Team is made up of a Head of Care, two Social Care Managers, a Care Administrator and eight care projects across England.

One of our clients, Mike (name changed) has experienced a complete transformation in his life as a result of the hard work and effort of our Care Team.

He had spent years in secure settings and had ongoing issues with drugs and mental health issues. He had struggled to stay crime and drug-free when released back into the community previously.

Before coming to Langley, our Care Team assessed his risk and needs and created a bespoke care and support plan that would enable him to address his mental health and drug issues.

Whilst with us, our Care Team successfully supported him to stay free from drugs, secure the right support for his mental health issues and develop his skills and talents. He undertook a course around substance misuse which would help him to help others.

He successfully moved on into the community and has remained drug and crime-free since leaving our services. He now volunteers as a peer mentor at one of our care projects inspiring other clients. This story typifies the work and effort that our Care Team invest into each of our clients.

The award results will be announced on 25th June 2018 at a special ceremony in Manchester. The awards are jointly organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
