Langley House Trust will be exhibiting at one of the largest Christian music festivals in May and June 2017.

Big Church Day Out attracts tens of thousands of attendees from across UK and Europe. It hosts a range of Christian music artists from all over the globe – this year’s line-up includes Mary Mary, Rend Collective and Hillsong.

The family-focused event, which the organisers describe as “one huge playground” normally takes place in West Sussex over the May bank holiday weekend. However, this year due to popularity and demand, an additional weekend has been added which it is being trialled in the North in Cheshire.

Langley has exhibited at Big Church Day Out for the last few years and is once again returning with its treasure box. Willing visitors attempt to find the key to unlock the treasure which is a metaphor for Langley’s work with ex-offenders and how we help people to realise their potential.

Many ex-offenders struggle with low self-esteem and feel like they are on the fringes of society. For one of our clients, James*, the world was “alien”. “I didn’t feel comfortable outside [in the community]. Prison was my world – I was respected, feared. I dreaded coming out.”

The treasure box also raises awareness of the need for individuals, churches and communities to get involved with the rehabilitation of ex-offenders. Almost 85,000 people are in prison at the moment, with at least 84,000 due to be released at some point in their lifetime.

Speaking about Big Church Day Out, Samantha Waterton, Head of Communications said: “It’s a fantastic event to be part of. We are always looking to attract supporters for our work who are passionate about changing the lives of ex-offenders. We have found that those attending Big Church Day Out are a great audience for that. We’re looking forward to trialling out the new venue in the North.”
